The method itself was developed in France by Françoise and Alain Chantraine. It is a holistic approach that blends elements from contemporary dance, ballet, jazz, and folklore, while also weaving in principles from yoga and Pilates. The goal is to connect the artistic, educational, and human sides of dance to help participants explore their movement. Because the workshops are continuous, each session builds on the previous one, though they are structured to be accessible. The programme follows what the creators call the "5 times of life and dance." This starts with Rhythm, where you explore weight, time, and space, followed by Inner Consciousness, which focuses on relaxation and waking up the imagination. The session then moves into Technique, Creativity—where you build a dance vocabulary—and finally, Choreography, which is about dancing in harmony with others. You will also spend time exploring specific choreographies from the repertoire of Françoise Chantraine. The philosophy behind the practice is summed up by the phrase, "I Breathe, I let go, I discover..." This structured approach is intended to support participants in developing all aspects of their movement, regardless of their starting point.
If you are planning to attend, keep in mind that booking is mandatory. You can secure your spot by contacting Eloise Rodgers directly at chantrainebrighton@gmail.com or by booking through the Eventbrite platform. The standard fee for the workshop is £20, with a concession rate of £14 available. If your plans change, the cancellation policy allows for refunds as long as you cancel at least 7 days before the event date.
