Led by saxophonist and composer Pete Piskov, the group operates as an octet. Their sound is built on a balance between precise technical execution and a willingness to embrace improvisation and chance. They describe their own work as fluid, atmospheric, and electrifying, often blending elements of avant-garde, soul, and experimental jazz. It’s a style that has drawn comparisons to figures like Sun Ra and Charles Mingus, focusing on deep rhythms and cinematic textures. The band’s approach to composition relies on this octet format to layer these different influences, creating a sound that moves between structured arrangements and spontaneous musical shifts. By utilizing such a large ensemble, they are able to explore complex arrangements that might be difficult to replicate with a smaller group, allowing for a wider range of sonic textures during their live performances.
The performance will highlight tracks from the upcoming Fire In Orbit record, giving a preview of the material before its official release in July. Because the band is based locally, this date serves as a key moment in their current touring schedule. The venue, A L P H A B E T, has been curating this summer jazz series to showcase artists who push the boundaries of the genre, and this set fits into that wider programme. If you’re planning to head down, keep in mind that the event is strictly for those aged 18 and over. Tickets are priced at £10, a figure that includes all booking fees.
