Fundraising dog swim event at Saltdean Lido specifically for large dogs over 30kg, part of the Dogtember initiative.
The Saltdean Lido Dog Swim 2026 - Large Dogs is taking place on 19 September 2026 at Saltdean Lido. This event is part of the wider DOGTEMBER 2026 initiative, which spans four weekends throughout September and October. The day is organised by the Saltdean Lido Trust, the charity responsible for the Grade 2* listed building, and is run entirely by volunteers as a fundraising activity for the site.

The setup at the lido is designed to be accessible for the dogs. You have access to a 40-metre heated pool, which features steps to make it easier for them to get in and out. There is also a splash pool equipped with a slide and water jets, alongside secure, fenced grass areas where the dogs can be off-lead. The event is sponsored by Petgevity, and you will typically find stalls from local businesses around the site, including vendors selling dog-friendly ice cream. Each session lasts for 90 minutes, giving the dogs plenty of time to swim.
Because it is a shared space, there are a few rules to keep in mind. The organisers maintain a strict 'No Agression' policy, and any dog or owner showing signs of aggression will be asked to leave. It is important to remember that the lifeguards on duty are trained for human safety, not for dogs, so you are responsible for your own pet at all times. You are required to clean up after your dog, though bags are provided at the entrance. If you are planning on getting in the water with your dog, it is recommended that you wear long sleeves to protect yourself from any accidental scratches while they are paddling.
Booking is specific: you must purchase a ticket for your dog, but the system requires you to buy a human ticket—either for a swimmer or a spectator—before you can reserve the dog’s spot. Children under 16 are not allowed in the main pool for health and safety reasons, though they can attend as spectators or use the splash pool under supervision. Tickets are £14.00, and this includes free parking at the Lido; you just need to provide your booking name to the security team upon arrival.
