The band is currently focusing on their debut album, Mount Zero, which is scheduled for release in July 2026. They recorded the record in a beach house in Noarlunga, a setting that likely informs the sound they have been developing since they formed in Adelaide back in 2022. Before this upcoming release, they gained attention for their 2024 EP, Oxalis. That EP was well-received in their home state, earning them both 'Best Song' and 'Best Release' at the 2024 South Australian Music Awards. It established a foundation for the band, which has since led to them becoming the first international artist signed to the American label Winspear.
The group consists of Venus O'Broin on guitar and vocals, Joshua Doherty on bass, and both Maxwell Elphick and Jack Medlyn handling guitar, drums, and vocals. They were previously known as Sour Sob before rebranding as Swapmeet. The multi-instrumental roles that Elphick and Medlyn take on are a key part of their live setup, allowing them to shift textures between their guitar-heavy indie rock sound and more varied arrangements. Seeing how the material from Mount Zero translates to the stage at The Hope & Ruin will be the main focus of the night.
While the ticket price is currently listed as TBC, online reservations are already open for those planning to attend. The venue is located at 10-12 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 3WA. It is a straightforward opportunity to catch a band that has been making significant moves in the Australian indie scene over the last few years, now bringing their latest project to a local stage.
