Concert by Villagerrr presenting their album 'Carousel' at The Hope & Ruin.
Villagerrr is playing at The Hope & Ruin on Thursday, 25 June 2026. The project, led by Ohio-based composer Mark Scott, is stopping in Brighton to present his latest album, Carousel. It is the fifth record from the project and marks a continuation of the work he has been developing recently, following the 2024 release Tear Your Heart Out. That previous record led to touring alongside artists like Real Estate, Greg Freeman, and Momma, and coincided with a new agreement with the label Winspear.

The material on Carousel is described as a shift between slowcore and shoegaze, moving from log-cabin folk to rock designed for an empty freeway. Mark Scott spent two years working on the album, maintaining a collaborative spirit throughout the process. He brought in artists such as Boone Patrello from Teethe, h. pruz, and Carolina Chauffe from Hemlock to help shape the sound. The album itself is an exploration of what it means to create sincere art in an era that feels hyper-exposed and constrictive. The songs are written to smolder with a desire to find enduring meaning in a time often defined by commodification. The music is characterised by a keen ear for both particulate detail and expansive landscape, evoking sensations that range from peering into prairie grass to see what is crawling there, to standing up suddenly to witness the splendour of an oncoming storm. While the record maintains a healthy scepticism about the world, it also defends the idea that laying down your guard and reaching out to others can spark creatively bountiful relationships.
The show takes place at The Hope & Ruin, located at 10-12 Queens Road, Brighton, BN1 3WA. The event is scheduled to run from 19:00 to 21:30. Current listings indicate the event is free, though it is worth checking the official venue website or ticket platforms to confirm if there are any changes to this or if tickets need to be secured in advance. Given the artist's background in indie, folk, and alternative rock, it is a chance to hear these specific textures in a live setting.
