Gareth Malone, who is well-known for his work on the BBC’s The Choir, leads the evening. He is not just hosting; he will be playing piano, guitar, and bass throughout the performance, accompanied by his own band and a group of singers. The format is built around audience participation, and it is designed to be inclusive, welcoming both organised choirs and individual soloists who want to join in. The show includes improvisation and moments where he scouts for vocal talent among the attendees, making the audience an active part of the performance rather than just spectators. The focus is on creating a sense of community, with the music acting as the bridge between the stage and the stalls.
The repertoire for the evening includes a wide range of songs that span the last five decades. You can expect to hear Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Avicii’s Wake Me Up, and Feeling Good. The programme also features Goldfinger, The Greatest Love of All, Single Ladies, Shake It Off, and Juice. These tracks are arranged to showcase the variety of the last 50 years of music, all building towards a final super-medley that brings the different elements of the show together.
The event starts at 19:30. Tickets are priced at £42.25. It is a straightforward setup for anyone interested in a night of communal singing, whether you are part of a local choir or just someone who enjoys singing along. The evening is structured to allow for both the band's performance and the audience's contribution, ensuring that the focus remains on the music and the act of singing together.
